Red Hill Valley Parkway Inquiry final report released

December 21, 2023

The final report of the Red Hill Valley Parkway Inquiry has been released. Our lawyers Emily Lawrence, Andrew Lewis, Hailey Bruckner, Shawna Leclair, and Chloe Hendrie, were the Commission Counsel team to the Commissioner Mr. Justice Herman J. Wilton-Siegel.

The Red Hill Valley Parkway (the “RHVP”) is a municipal urban freeway in Hamilton. In 2019, the City of Hamilton requested a judicial inquiry into the non-disclosure of a friction report prepared in 2014 regarding the RHVP pavement surface, following years of questions about collisions and fatalities on the RHVP.  Mr. Justice Herman J. Wilton-Siegel was appointed Commissioner, and he appointed members of Paliare Roland as his counsel.

The role of Commission Counsel broadly speaking, is to advise the Commissioner, conduct an investigation including obtaining document production from participant entities and non-participants and conducting witness interviews, and to lead the evidence of witnesses at the Inquiry’s public hearings. The RHVP Inquiry heard from over 70 witnesses at the public hearings from April 2022 to February 2023.

The Inquiry final report was released on November 29, 2023. The full report is located at: http://rhvpi.ca/report/index.html
