Police

We represent Ontario police associations, police officers and civilian employees in a variety of employment and related matters. Ian Roland is general counsel to the Canadian Police Association and the Police Association of Ontario. Police officers and police associations have many distinct employment issues that involve representation at Human Rights Tribunals, police discipline tribunals, public inquests and other administrative tribunals, interest and rights arbitrations, and representation in civil courts. We have been involved in many of the leading cases concerning police governance and the representation of police officers and police associations at the Supreme Court of Canada, including:

  • Hill v. Hamilton-Wentworth Police Service;
  • Penner v. Regional Municipality of Niagara;
  • Attorney General of Canada and Fraser;

And in leading cases at the Ontario Court of Appeal, including:

  • Mounted Police Association and Attorney General of Canada;
