Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Paliare Roland is committed to equity and to creating an inclusive workplace. Our clients are best served by lawyers who understand and reflect the diversity of the community around us. Our firm is best served by having a workplace that creates space for all.
As a firm, we support diverse community organizations through charitable donations and through pro bono legal work.
We are proud to advocate on behalf of organizations such as Progress Toronto, HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic of Ontario (HALCO), the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA), and many others.
As an employer, we have implemented a diversity policy and build in equity, diversity and inclusion considerations into all stages of recruitment, retention and advancement, including prioritizing candidates with divergent experiences, achievements and backgrounds. We conduct ongoing training sessions for members of the firm on unconscious bias, anti-oppression and the historical (and ongoing) challenges faced by equity-deserving communities. The firm maintains demographic data to track its objective progress.
Paliare Roland's Inclusion Committee is made up of partners, associates, and staff.
Within the firm, the Inclusion Committee coordinates education sessions for the firm, and works to identify and address systemic barriers that exist within the workplace. Externally, it supports the work of equity-deserving groups in the legal community.
Our office environment is casual, close-knit, and collegial, and seeks to break down the barriers found in traditional legal environments.
Paliare Roland recognizes that there is always more work to be done.
We are committed to building on our achievements and doing so with a team strengthened by diverse voices. We welcome applicants from all walks of life. In our hiring, we prioritize candidates with diverse experiences, backgrounds, and achievements. If you have questions about our equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives, please contact Glynnis Hawe.
